Acute Copper Toxicity in Garole Sheep - A Case Study
نویسنده
چکیده
A case history of acute copper toxicity in a flock of Garole sheep has been presented. The animals which suffered from the toxicity were fed solely on leaves of mahogany plant for two days prior to the onset of the symptoms. The soil in the region of West Bengal is deficient in both zinc and molybdenum, which may have caused copper imbalance in the animals. Serum biochemical and postmortem findings of the affected organs too have been presented.

Effect of Body Condition Score on the Allometric Measurements and Reproductive Performance of Garole X Malpura Ewes under Hot Semi-Arid Environment
The Garole is the only known prolific sheep breed in India and is a native of Sunderban, the swampy delta region of West Bengal [1]. Malpura is a popular mutton-type breed of semi-arid tropical region of India. These sheep are known for their hardiness and adaptability to the local environment but prolificacy is low with ewes usually producing single lambs. Increasing prolificacy of the Malpura...

Background: Soil and plant contamination in copper exposure causes chronic copper poisoning (CCP) in animals following the consumption of plants in these soils. Objectives: The present study was carried out on 10 clinically affected copper poisoned cases (in each season) from autumn 2015 to the end of summer 2016, in four seasons in Kerman province to evaluate the seasonal effects of CCP in she...

The Garole sheep is so far the only specialized sheep which is dwarf, highly prolific, has short lambing interval and is of coarse wool type. This sheep has specific characteristic of adaptability to hot and humid climatic conditions, grazing in knee-deep saline water and high mothering instinct for their neonates (Pan and Sahoo 2008). The genetically determined polymorphous system of haemoglob...

The brine shrimp, Artemia spp., is widely used in ecotoxicological research as a biological index. In the present study, aquatic stability and acute toxic effects of TiO2, CuO and ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) on Artemia franciscana were investigated. Acute exposure was conducted in sea water with different concentrations of selected nanoparticles at 24h, 48h, 72h and 96h. The mortality rate of A. fr...
